In an odd coincidence, Mitch Rapp and Kyle Mills are connected via Pan Am 103. The reason Mitch Rapp joined the CIA in the novels is due to the terrorist attack which occurred on the flight Pan Am 103, where his girlfriend passed. Kyle Mills dad was an FBI agent and the lead on the investigation of Pan Am 103.
Kyle states on his website that he attempts to travel where he can for research on locations for his upcoming novels. He has visited the likes of Istanbul and Cape Town for research.
