John Slattery directed the 2014 film adaptation of Pete's book God's Pocket. Philip Seymour Hoffman, John Turturro, Christina Hendricks, and Richard Jenkins starred in the movie. After the film premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival to mixed reviews, IFC Films purchased it for domestic distribution. Another one of Pete's books, Deadwood, influenced the 1995 film Wild Bill. It starred Jeff Bridges, Ellen Barkin, John Hurt, and Diane Lane and was produced by Richard D. Zanuck & Lili Fini Zanuck.
