Patricia’s Scarpetta series is so realistic and accurate in its descriptions of injuries and disease. Her previous career working in the morgue serves her well, capturing what it’s like to work down in a morgue. They are pretty gorey at times, but also rather brilliant. To read one of these novels is to live the events as they are happening.
My mom actually got me into Kay Scarpetta when I was younger and I’m glad she did. And I still check them out when there’s a new one, or whenever I’m in the mood to re-read through these excellent novels.
Definitely wasn’t a fan of reading before, but I certainly am now.
Patricia Cornwell creates complex mysteries. Some of them are convoluted, but not in a bad way. I was late to the Kay Scarpetta party. I started reading these books five years ago, which is why I was so surprised to learn that they inspired the CSI TV show and the forensic science obsession it sparked back in the 2000s.
I initially thought that Cornwell took inspiration from CSI. But that is why I love lists like the one above. You can clearly see that the first Scarpetta novel came out in 1990, long before the first CSI TV show was conceived.
Cornwell has been in the publishing business for many years. Considering the millions of copies she has sold since her debut, I’m surprised that it took me so long to discover her.
I read a few of Cornwell’s books but they didn’t keep my interest to read others. She’s a different kind of writer. The vividness with which she writes can be disturbing at times. If you like this type of thrill then she’s your author.
Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta’s books are the best!!! I love the continuing characters from book to book and the story lines are excellent!!
Unnatural Death was as good as expected. It’s amazing how much she can fit into one day. I do wonder why Scarpetta puts up with such bad employees.
I am always impressed to find out how much information can be obtained from an autopsy.
I’ve been reading Patricia Cornwell books for years. I’ve read all of Kay Scarpetta right up until Autopsy which I started reading recently. I tried hard to keep at it to try and make sense out of it. I read for an hour and felt I could do without the info I gained in reading that long not really knowing much about the actual crime. I’m not sure what happened but I would recommend every book up until this one. I’ve finally given up (2 hours into it) and I’m going to something I know I will enjoy. I definitely do NOT recommend this book. How can all of her books be good and then this one was awful. Maybe she is entitled to one dud. I will try the next one in the series at some point but my TBR list is long so I have plenty to read without wasting my time with this one.
The Scarpetta series is an excellent read. I have read the entire series at least twice, if not more. I always seem to find some small fact that I didn’t remember from the previous read.
