I applaud Nick Louth for writing a long-running series in which the protagonist isn’t all that likable, but the books are still entertaining. A friend of mine suggested that other readers did not share my opinion of Gillard.
To me, the detective’s sleazy and inconsiderate behavior makes it challenging to root for him, at least in the earlier novels. But maybe I’m alone in that thinking.
It doesn’t matter. I’m yet to read the Bernard Jones books. This happens all the time. I get so caught up in one series that it never occurs to me to find out whether a particular author has written other series. It doesn’t matter. I’m one book away from finishing the Craig Gillard collection. Once I’m done, I will dip my toes into Bernard Jones.
