Newt Gingrich is an author and politician that served as the 50th speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1995 until 1999.
During his teen years he’d been interested in politics. During his time living in Orleans, France, he visited the site of the Battle of Verdun and learned all about the sacrifices made there and the importance of political leadership.
From 1979 until his resignation in 1999, he was the US representative for Georgia’s 6th congressional district serving north Atlanta and its surrounding areas as a member of the Republican Party.
During the 1970s, he was a professor of geography and history at the University of West Georgia. In 1978, he won an election to the US House of Representatives, and was the first Republican in the history of Georgia’s 6th district to do so. Newt served as House minority whip from 1989 until 1995.
In 1995,
Time named him “Man of the Year” for his role in bringing an end to the four decades long Democratic majority in the House.
In 2012, he made an unsuccessful run for the Republican nomination for President of the United States.
March to the Majority: The Real Story of the Republican Revolution is a gripping political history, and takes readers behind the scenes of the 1994 Republican Revolution and the rise of the modern GOP. All to show how we can lead America toward a more prosperous and conservative future.
The tale of Newt’s rise from college professor, to architect of the Contract with America, to Speaker of the US House of Representatives is historic. There were numerous missteps, adventures, personalities, and victories on the road from an apparently permanent House GOP minority to the first Republican majority in 40 years. These inspiring lessons and untold tales about the rise of modern conservatism are immensely still relevant today while the US faces extraordinary and profound challenges.
Newt joins up with Joe Gaylord (former National Republican Congressional Committee Executive Director) in order to bring alive the events, stories, and activities which led to the Contract with America and the first re-elected Republican majority since 1928. No other two people are better positioned to tell such a story than Gaylord and Gingrich. They were there and got it done.
This is not only about the past, however it’s also about the challenges that our nation faces today and offers up principles for governing the American people.
