Jack Carr was recommended to me by a friend. While I was initially reluctant, but once I started reading The Terminal List, I could not put it down. Carr clearly makes use of his past work experiences to develop and create James Reece who goes on a thrilling adventure that took me on a journey that was quite memorable. Reece is quite the a character as Jack Carr combines a scorned man and military hero that has had to see his life fall apart. Still, his training has made him tough even though he is unpredictable as his emotions often cloud his mind. I have always had an eclectic taste in reading and I loves stories full of detail that are just as well written. I love that Carr makes use of his military background to develop a story full of nuances that is also very believable.
His writing gets better and better in each book, and Chris Pratt is the perfect fit to play this character.
In The Devil’s Hand, it’s tough to know where fiction and fact meet because of how realistic the story is, as Jack incorporates what has been going on for the previous year into the novel.
The novel also features a great lead character, an outstanding plot, combat, and rather gritty details. The twists and surprises just keep on coming and it has an ending that gets you excited for the next one. Certainly glad I checked out Jack Carr’s work.
After coming across a list of books by Jack Carr, I was not sure what to expect of him. Using his past work experiences in the military, he develops an excellent character, James Reece, to give the reader something memorable. As a retired seal, Jack Carr incorporates a lot of passion and details into the Terminal List series. The Terminal List is a fantastic novel with a lot of actions and real authenticity that comes with the Navy Seal. I liked how he leaves the blacked-out sections to add a realistic element in the fast-paced and exciting read.
The Terminal List series, which are written about a Navy SEAL by a Navy SEAL, are some of the most realistic military action books I’ve ever read. Drawing on his real-life experiences, Carr has created a series with cutting edge military tactics and firepower presented as they should be, with no fancy “Hollywood magic” to mess things up. Carr’s hero, James Reece, is an expert combatant, and is not afraid to use his skills to get out of a tough situation or for the purpose they were intended for. Non-stop action and adventure are always guaranteed with this series, and I can’t wait for each new volume to come out.
I spend a lot of time reading what some people call ‘Serious Literature.’ To me, Jack Carr is a vacation. That makes it sound like the other books I read are work. But that isn’t the case. I enjoy reading stories that engage my brain, forcing me to think.
However, on difficult days, I prefer to consume lighter entertainment that doesn’t require much in the way of thinking. On some of those days, I watch TV. But every once in a while, I open a Jack Carr novel.
I don’t think it would be erroneous to compare Carr’s James Reece to the likes of Jack Reacher. Though, Reece is a little more unhinged because he lost so much in the first book. Carr’s novels are an interesting change of pace.
While contracting and training at an undisclosed site, I had the privilege of meeting Jack Carr, who was there to visit one of the instructors. Very personable and serious guy. Easy to understand why his books ring true. He’s the real deal. Happy for him that Terminal List was tapped for TV production, but it left a lot to be desired after reading the book. I agree with others who have said that the books have improved as they have been released.
