Michael D’Antonio is an award-winning journalist, commentator, and author who has made his name for his biographies on influential public figures and his in-depth reporting.

It was in 1977 that he got his start as a journalist when he got a job first at the Dover Democrat before he moved to the Portland Press Herald. He then joined Newsday and won a local reporting Pulitzer Prize as part of a team that reported on the Baby Jane Doe case.

Over the years, Michael D’Antonio has published more than two dozen books that have all become very popular. Most of his works are about influential political figures such as Barack Obama and Donald Trump. He has also authored books on institutions, such as the 2013 published Mortal Sins about the Catholic Church.

In addition to writing books, Michael has had articles published in magazines such as the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, Discover, and Esquire. He has made appearances on several political programs such as Good Morning America, Today, and 60 Minutes, in addition to being a political contributor on CNN.

D’Antonio now makes his home in Long Island, New York, where he lives with Toni Raiten-D’Antonio, his wife, who works as a professor, psychotherapist, and author.

In 2006, Michael D’Antonio published Hershey, in which he looks into the life of the visionary Milton S. Hershey, the founder of the legendary Hershey chocolate brand.

Even though the early days were filled with failure, Hershey managed to establish an empire that revolutionized chocolate making. He took advantage of his money to create one of the most iconic brands in the United States, in addition to funding a school for orphans and establishing a model town for workers.

According to D’Antonio, Hershey was a different type of capitalist whose success came down to his idealistic vision of making a profit while improving lives.

A year later, D’Antonio published A Ball, a Dog, and a Monkey, in which he tells of the chaos of the space race in America in the very early days.

It all began when the Soviets launched their satellite into Space, leaving the US scrambling to catch up. Amid rival military branches trying to outdo each other and national panic, the work captures how Eisenhower stepped in and handed leadership to the civilians.

The author shows how space exploration became a symbol of American imagination and ambition despite its militaristic roots. He also looks into the cultural phenomenon that space became in the 50s, from the space-themed pageants to model rocket clubs and UFO sightings.
