Michael Dante DiMartino is best known as an American director, animator, writer, and producer.

DiMartino became proficient at his craft, working at Film Roman, where he spent a dozen years. During this time, he was a director of the likes of Mission Hill, Family Guy, and King of the Hill in addition to creating Atomic Love, the animated short.

However, what made Michael DiMartino a household name was when he created Avatar: The Last Airbender, which aired on Nickelodeon. He would also create the sequel to his popular series titled The Legend of Korra.

On most of the shows that DiMartino worked on, he was a story editor, executive producer, writer, and director who helped in innovative world-building and the rich storytelling he has become famous.

In addition to his books, Michael Dante DiMartino has produced several audio dramas as the writer and creator of the Audio Drama Sundown. He was also tapped to executive adapt Avatar into live-action by Netflix, even though he had to leave over creative differences.

In 2021, he was headhunted to become chief creative officer at Avatar Studios, a division of ViacomCBS. In his new role, he was put in charge of new animated films and projects, including a feature expected to be released in 2026.

It is a work that explores resilience, memory, and denial, showcasing how dealing with the truth can result in light and hope after a deep personal loss.

Michael’s work, Rebel Genius, tells the story of Giacomo, a 12-year-old living in a world where artists are hunted and art is outlawed.

He unexpectedly finds a magical bird, which changes his life as it is an embodiment of his genius. He becomes a member of a secretive group of artists who can turn art into magic by manipulating sacred geometry.
