The Ladykiller is the only book from Martina that I’ve read so far. I don’t remember where I got it or why I read it. But I can count on one hand the number of books I struggled to put down, and The Ladykiller is one of them.
Martina created a murderer that I actually liked. It’s puzzling. He’s vile, and you should hate him. But for some reason, he was endearing. Maybe I have a loose screw somewhere in my brain. Or perhaps, Martina is such a great writer that she got me to care for a horrible person.
Either way, I agree with people who call The Ladykiller Martina’s best novel, even though I haven’t read any of the other books on this list. That will change one of these days.
