Mark Bittman

Mark Bittman was born on February 17th, 1950 and is currently 75 years old. Mark Bittman was born in Manhattan, New York, USA. Bittman attended Clark University.

Mark Bittman is an author, food journalist, and was a columnist for The New York Times. Mark has also promoted the VB6 (vegan before 6 o’clock), a flexitarian diet. Mark’s How to Cook Everything cookbooks, with 1 million copies in print, are a mainstay of the modern kitchen.

Mark has received numerous Julia Child, James Beard, and International Association of Culinary Professionals awards for his writing.

Mark was an Opinion columnist for The New York Times, a food columnist for their Dining section, and was the lead food writer for The New York Times Magazine.

His New York Times column, “The Minimalist”, ran for over 13 years, with the final column being published on January 26, 2011. He also hosted his weekly “Minimalist” cooking video that appeared on the New York Times site. He started doing a cooking show based on his NYT column for the Cooking Channel that was also called “The Minimalist”.

He announced in 2015 that he’d be leaving the New York Times in order to join Purple Carrot as the chief innovation officer. He spent under a year with them.

He started his own food magazine in 2019 with Medium. It’s called Heated.

Mark is a regular guest on NPR shows such as Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me and All Things Considered and NBC’s Today Show. He made an appearance as a guest judge on Chopped. He appeared as a correspondent on Years of Living Dangerously, the climate change documentary show in 2014.
