He later moved onto the F-86 Sabre Jet at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. He served on active duty for 23 years until 1974, when he retired.

Rolling Thunder is a historical novel about the crippling role that politics played back during the Vietnam War.

Late in 1965 and 1966 in war zone spots like Hanoi, Saigon, Tahkli, Da Nang, and Bien Hoa. LBJ meanwhile is back in Washington sitting over lunch and is personally picking out bombing targets in an effort to fight a more limited war.

In Vietnam, the war knows no limits. There, while the hostilities escalate, the fates of 3 men intertwine. Air Force First Lieutenant Toby Parker, newly from the US, who hooks up with an intelligence unit for a lark, and soon finds his innocence buried away by the lessons of war. USAF Captain Court Bannister, who’s overshadowed by a famous movie star dad that fought in WWII as a B-17 gunner, driven to confront MiGs, missiles, and nerve grinding bombing raids to try and prove his worth to his comrades, as well as to himself. Special Forces Colonel Wolf Lochert, who ventures deeper into the jungle in order to rescue a downed pilot, just to find a face of the enemy for which he’s unprepared to see.

Through their eyes, as well as the eyes of many others, we get to see Vietnam like few other books have or can. Mark captures all the drama and intensity of this searing war, and more, while penetrating the heart and soul of those that fought it.
