Kudos to Lisa Gardner for penning some incredible books over the years. Say Goodbye is one of Lisa’s scariest books, and she did an incredible job writing it.
Another excellent read is The Perfect Husband, a book that I go back to a time or two a year, and have probably worn out a copy or two of the book over the years. It was the novel I started on her work with and definitely glad I checked her work out, as it’s provided some excellent reading.
The Third Victim is a novel with some excellent twists and is just a fantastic read in general.
I first got introduced to Lisa Gardner when I watched At the Midnight Hour a movie adaptation of her novel by the same name. I loved the movie a lot which is why I decided to look up the novel which kept me up the whole night. The novel has a thrilling story line a lot of which was diluted in the movie. Lisa Gardner wrote a novel full of suspense that she combines with romance to make for a spine tingling story. I have since read most of Gardner’s works including the scary Say Goodbye which I believe is my second favorite of her works after At the Midnight Hour. I am currently reading through the Detective DD Warren series and will come back to update this review when I am done.
I’m glad to have discovered Lisa Gardner’s work, thanks to this list of her books. After reading great reviews, I decided to start with Alone; it was entertaining and enjoyable. Bobby Dodge, state police, is a fascinating character who gets caught up in domestic chaos and ends up killing the husband. I felt like the role of DD Warren was minimal in the first book, but hoping to read more of her in the rest of the series. In the Detective D.D series, Gardner crafts a fascinating psychological thriller. She adds some twists to the plot while keeping her characters true to themselves.
With three separate but intertwined series on the go, Lisa Gardner fans will always have something to look forward to from the author. Her writing of strong female lead characters remains adept at all times, no matter what kind of horrible investigation they’ve been exposed to this time. The shared nature of the novels makes for a tight core group of main characters, who we get to see from multiple perspectives across the series. Unfortunately, so far there have been no mainstream adaptations of her work but hopefully things will change in the future.
Lisa Gardner did something interesting in ‘Love You More.’ Maybe she did it in earlier books as well. I don’t remember. D.D. Warren, her protagonist, was envious of the attractive young females in her life.
It reminded me of all the qualities that make Warren so unique. Many authors tend to make their heroines young, beautiful, and perfect. The goal is to create a strong female character that female readers can look up to. While I understand the sentiment, it always backfires, in my opinion, because characters that don’t have flaws are boring.
You get the sense that some authors are afraid to build obvious weaknesses into their heroines. Some of my favorite writers wouldn’t have the courage to saddle their heroines with jealousy triggered by their younger, more attractive peers. It is such a small attribute, but it makes a massive difference. It gives Warren more layers.
Just finished The Perfect Husband – very good! I will be reading more of this series.
The Third Victim – I had trouble putting this one down! Second installment in her FBI series.
