I have followed Kate Ellis’ Wesley Peterson series for years. And yet, I only recently read ‘The Merchant’s House,’ the first novel in the series. When I started this series, book 7 was already out.
So, I bought ‘The Skeleton Room’ and moved forward, reading each new installment that Ellis released. Later on, I went back and read all the novels I missed.
But I never read the first one. For some reason, I felt like it was too late. I did not think I could enjoy a mystery novel published in 1998. However, recently, I started reading reviews for the book, and most of them were surprisingly positive.
They encouraged me to give ‘The Merchant’s House’ a shot. I did not regret it. I finished the novel a few weeks ago. It isn’t as good as the books that came after. But it was still a solid mystery thriller with a well-developed protagonist. Now I’m tempted to re-read all the other novels in the series.
