Elizabeth George’s Inspector Lynley series are outstanding and never disappoint. What Came Before He Shot Her is my favorite novel that she’s written, but it’s also incredibly sad.
Reading about Lynley and Barbara, working together as a duo, have provided me with a lot of good times and fun. Barbara is simply a fantastic character all on her own, as well, and is one of my favorites.
Elizabeth does a fantastic job of bringing to life a typical British conversation, especially for somebody that is an American writer. And her comprehension of the class situation in Britain is second to none.
The Inspector Lynley series by Elizabeth George has been on my to do list for months now and I finally decided to give it a go.
The lead is a charismatic, talented and very attractive man who is competent at his job. Unlike most main characters in crime fiction he does not have unappealing traits such as alcoholism or being anti social, which is very rare in crime fiction nowadays.
George writes a totally gripping and gritty story in each of her novels in the series. The scenes at the psychiatric hospital in A Great Deliverance had me tearing up several times.
George is a great mystery and thriller writer though she can get carried away in some of the scenes, though this does not away much from the story.
Elizabeth George is my best mystery writer of all time. In the Inspector Lynley mystery series, the author does an excellent job of creating a talented, attractive, and charismatic lead character. The fact that there are no computers or phones makes the series even much calm. Elizabeth writes a terrific British story even though she’s American. The author does an outstanding job of delivering imagery to the readers for a better understanding of her stories. She also makes liberal use of Shakespearian references in some sections of her books. I’m almost through with the Inspector Lynley series so that I can start the Saratoga Woods Series.
I remember where I was when the BBC canceled The Inspector Lynley Mysteries. And yes, you can count me among those rabid fans that petitioned the BBC to save the show. Alas, we failed. Fortunately, I still had the books.
I discovered Elizabeth George and the Inspector Lynley TV show in the same month. I chose to follow the TV show instead of reading the books because the show looked more appealing. But once the BBC canceled it, the books were all I had left.
Do they match the standard set by the TV show? This was the first question my friends asked when I read ‘A Great Deliverance.’ All I can say is that I have no complaints. Watching the TV show beforehand has enhanced my reading experience because I have a frame of reference.
When Elizabeth describes her charismatic protagonist, I can see the inspector clearly in my head.
I just finished For the Sake of Elena. It’s part of the Inspector Lynley series and my least favorite so far. I’ll try another to see if my enjoyment improves. Too long, too much description, just too much.
