Jude Devereaux has always been one of my favorite authors in the historical and contemporary romance fiction genre.
What I have always liked about Deveraux are her capable and strong heroines. As a historical buff and reader of romance fiction the setting of her stories in several time periods such as Nineteenth century New Mexico, Colorado, and post Revolutionary American makes for a good story.
My favorites of her novels often involve the Taggert and Montgomery families as over the years I have come to know and love the characters from the families.
I have also started warming up to her latter time travel novels set in a contemporary setting. Even though I have read several reviews about her paranormal novels, I am yet to dig into one so I cannot say much about them but knowing Deveraux I am certain they will be very good.
I’ll be honest. I only started reading Jude Deveraux’s work because of the Rose Marks story. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have given her the time of day. Deveraux is old school, sort of. She’s been writing novels since the 1980s. I have seen her books in the hands of older aunts.
I tend to restrict my reading to authors from the 21st Century. But I’ve to admit that my morbid curiosity paid off. After a while, I forgot about the Rose Marks scandal.
I can’t get over the novelty. You can tell that Deveraux’s books come from a different era. Her heroines are strong but not quite as obnoxious as the many female protagonists you find in modern romance novels. Her stories are refreshing.
The Nantucket Brides – the best! She is definitely a feel good author that I enjoy reading when I want something light. The Moonlight Trilogy books are also good, albeit a bit predictable. I haven’t tried any of the mystery books but I might check one out to see how she writes outside of romance.
