‘The Daughter of Time’ is not the greatest crime novel of all time. The Crime Writers’ Association bestowed that impressive title on Josephine Tey’s book, which is the only reason why I read it.
I had never heard of this author until I read an online article that mentioned ‘The Daughter of Time.’ I had to check it out. Having read it, I don’t think it is the greatest novel the genre has ever seen.
But it is still amazing. Think about it. Grant is stuck in bed because of a broken leg, and he’s trying to solve a historical mystery. All the players are dead. Therefore, the mystery has no suspense. And yet, I was thoroughly entertained. Hopefully, Tey’s other novels can match the standard set by ‘The Daughter of Time.’
