In writing, J.R. Ward is among the authors who can never go wrong, especially for my favorite paranormal series with emotions and full of actions. I liked the fantastic love scenes in Covet, the first book in the Fallen Angel. Jim was a likable character and hero, and Ward does an excellent job fleshing the secondary characters. Ward’s writing style and sense of humor are so enjoyable and will leave you craving for more. Generally, I found his books are entertaining, thrilling, surprising, and addictive. Blood dagger legacy series was on another leave, my most favorite by Ward. In the Bourbon Kings novel, Ward narrates about a wealthy Kentucky family full of secrets and drama and masters it all with twists and turns to keep the reader hooked.
I love all of J. R. Ward’s books, but I also have a special love for the Bourbon Kings novels. They were a joy to read. A different style of life from the Warden. I have been to the Kentucky Derby several times I can simply picture the atmosphere, imagery, and heart that went into this series. And I loved the Debutante picture of J. R. on her back cover.
I have friends that have spent years asking me to read Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I spent a decade promising that I would give the series a shot. But then I decided to write the books off completely. After all, the first one came out in 2005. I felt like their time had passed.
I would compare it to watching a movie from the 80s with terrible CGI that doesn’t hold up. But then I found ‘Dark Lover’ in my local library and thought, ‘Why not?’
I read the book simply because I wanted to see how bad it was and how dated the references were. But you know what? I was entertained. This isn’t a guilty pleasure. I legitimately had fun, to the point where I went out and bought the sequel. I can’t tell you why I liked it. I just did.
J. R. Ward is one of my favorite authors as you can tell. She is a master of letting the reader care, really care about her books. She has such heart, but can also write very deadly scenes. Her characters become part of your family. I just finished “The Bourbon Kings” and it was such a fun read. I hope she does more series like this one as well as the Black Dagger Brotherhood. I’m not able to get the Fallen Angel books at my library so I cannot comment on them. The Black Dagger Brotherhood books got me through Covid. I would order 6 at a time from Amazon. I was never disappointed! I’m currently reading, Lassiter and I am always amused at how she keeps her books up to date with references to current events mixed in. Love, love, love J.R. Ward!
Can’t wait for the new book!
