Award-winning writer Irene Hannon is best known for her ability to capture readers with mind-blowing stories that have them return to retrace their steps in search of what they missed. Dangerous Illusions novel in Code of Honor series is clever and cunning suspense where the reader isn’t sure what happens next. Irene’s novels are well-written, gripping, and exciting and leave the reader craving for more. The debut novel in Triple Threat got my attention right from the beginning, and I found both Eve and Brent tremendous and complex characters. Grace and Cate’s interactions were lovable and admirable. The mystery of the person responsible for the threats had me suspecting one character then I was suspecting another one the next minute.
Irene Hannon is competent. I rarely use that word to describe authors, but she fits the bill. The romantic suspense genre is annoying because it is such a mixed bag. Some authors have great prose but boring stories. Others have great stories but terrible prose. You have authors with addictive narratives but poor character development.
Many of them cannot balance the suspense with the romantic aspects of the story. They prioritize one while sacrificing the other. This is why I call Hannon competent.
Her books are suspenseful, well-researched, and littered with rich characters. Also, she knows how to build romance. Again, ‘Competent’ is an excellent descriptor for Hannon.
I read Into the Fire. This is a new author for me. I picked it up on a display shelf at the library. It was a fast read (1 day) and I enjoyed the book. I stay away from romantic type books since I’m a widow and don’t need the reminders of what I’m missing but even though this book had part of that in the plot, there was a lot more to capture my attention. I see that she has more series out there and the book I read is the first of an Undaunted Courage series so I will be returning to her again.
