I’m still trying to decide if Gena Showalter is appropriate for younger readers. My first encounter with her work was ‘Alice in Zombieland,’ which was far better than it had any right to be. Well, actually, it wasn’t.
I was initially disappointed. I bought it specifically because the covert art and synopsis made me think that Gena had delivered a retelling of Alice in Wonderland, but with zombies.
That wasn’t the case. I enjoyed the book once I finally decided to judge it based on what it was instead of what I wanted it to be. It was also surprisingly tame, not quite the erotic romance I envisioned. But some of the other novels in Gena’s bibliography have sexually suggestive cover art. I can’t decide whether or not they are appropriate for my niece. She loved Alice in Zombieland.
