I’m still a little ashamed to admit that I read Erin Hunter’s novels. I was very young when I discovered the Warriors series.
No other series had ever consumed me so completely. The Warriors books gave me a zeal for reading I never had before. But then I grew up and moved on, confident that I had outgrown Erin.
Except that I couldn’t stop thinking about my favorite feline heroes and what they had gotten up to over the years. So, after a while, I surrendered. I went to my local store and bought every Erin Hunter novel published from 2015 onward.
Naturally, that section of the store was packed with kids, which made me question my decision to return to Erin Hunter’s world. At the end of the day, I enjoyed the author’s books. I can’t point to a single weak link in this series. The next time my paycheck comes through, I will buy and re-read the entire series from the start.
Though, I still can’t decide whether these books are suitable for adults or if they have an exceptional hold over me because of my experience with the series during my childhood.
Hi Michael I would be considered an “elder” in the warrior books but I absolutely love them. Several of my friends read them as well. I was able to travel to one of Erin’s US visits to meet her, have her autograph my book and she was absolutely lovely and gracious. My husband actually got me “Into the Wild” as a gift once thinking if I enjoyed it, there were 5 more in the first series to buy as gifts.Well, since I pretty much finished that first book in 2 days, I bought the next 5 and couldn’t put them down!! I have been reading them ever since. Tougher now since I have to wait 6 months between the releasing of the next book. I will also admit that I can’t read them without a box of kleenix next to me since I love the cats so much I get upset when one of them dies. I have also named multiple cats I have rescued after different characters I love. For me, the best part of the books is Star Clan. Losing a cat is the worst thing and after I have had to have the cat euthanized, that evening I go into my back yard and there is always a star directly over my house which gives me comfort. During one very bad year I lost 3 cats in 3 months, At that time of the year, Orion was visible and the first thing I saw were the 3 stars in Orion’s belt which I knew were Khar’pern, Kit and Saavik. So, Michael, you are not alone! Rosemary
As an adult I discovered these wonderful cat books and could not put them down! I’ve always been an avid reader and a cat lover. My early childhood faves are Catwings Series by Ursula K. LeGuin and Catwitch by Lisa Tuttle. As a librarian I encourage people of all ages to read Erin Hunter. I hope you enjoy re-reading this series as much as I have enjoyed them.
