Emily Giffin writes incredible chick-lit. I was determined to hate ‘Something Borrowed.’ Cheating is never okay, and I took offense to Giffin’s attempts to make Darcy so unsympathetic that it justified Rachel’s affair.
Well, that isn’t true. I tried to take offense, but it did not work. Giffin just gets me. Her characters feel real and messy, which is why you can root for them without necessarily liking them. But at the same time, they are neither real nor relatable, and they make the dumbest decisions.
In a way, Giffin is a contradiction. Her books don’t make sense. They shouldn’t work. I shouldn’t enjoy them. But I do. She pushes all the right buttons in my soul.
