Dwayne Johnson otherwise known as “The Rock” is an American actor and professional wrestler who is best known for his athleticism and charisma. It is these two aspects of his character and build that have made him a massive success in both wrestling and acting.

He is the son of “Soulman” Rocky Johnson who was a wrestler in the American regional wrestling circuit, while his maternal grandmother was also a professional wrestler in the 1960s through to the 70s.

He initially sought a career playing football and was even signed by the Canadian Football League’s “Calgary Stampeders” where he played as a linebacker. While he managed to get into the team roster, he did not last as he was cut two months into their 1995 season.

After he was let go by Calgary, he turned to wrestling and proved to be a master at the microphone and that combined with his agility, speed, and size made him one of the most bankable stars for the then WWF, where he wrestled under the name “The Rock.”

Given his work ethic, charm, and popularity as a wrestler, he had a pretty smooth transition into acting in Hollywood. After a series of small films such as The Scorpion King and Walking Tall, he had his first major box office success when he was cast as Luke Hobbs in the 2011 film Fast Five which was the highest-grossing movie of that year.

Over his acting career which started in 1999 to the present, “The Rock” has become one of the most successful and highest-paid actors with his films grossing more than $10.5 billion across the globe.

Aside from his acting, he is also a producer and businessman known as the founder of the liquor company “Teremana Tequila” in addition to being a co-founder of the “United Football League”.

In 1999, “The Rock” published his first book The Rock Says…

The first six chapters of the book are about his childhood and young adulthood, his football years, and his training in Sports Entertainment that comes with some humous anecdotes about the mischief he got into as a young adult.

The subsequent chapters are all about his career in the ring as he tells of how he went from being Rocky Maivia into “The Rock.” He takes time to make his readers understand the role of the audience in making Johnson go from the grinning good guy into a heel that was fondly referred to as “The People’s Champion.”
