I don’t know anything about Deborah Crombie. I’ve never been tempted to read her biography. But after reading several Kincaid/Gemma novels, I have to assume she’s British.
Why? Because her books are extremely British. These cozy mysteries tick every box I associate with British cozy mysteries. That isn’t a criticism. These days, most of my friends want the novels they read to subvert every expectation.
But I disagree with that mindset. I love authors like Crombie because they have a keen understanding of who they are and what they write. I continue to buy the Kincaid/Gemma novels because I know what to expect from them. I like that element of predictability. The tight plotting and clever mysteries are a bonus.
Really enjoy Deborah Crombie books…Happy New Year!!!
Reading the Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James books was my first introduction to books set in the UK.I have since read several more authors and follow them as well. I sometimes believe I could find my around several different places. So looking forward to another chapter in the lives of these wonderful characters.
I am re-reading Crombie’s books. I love the descriptions of the countryside as the investigations take place in places other than London. This second reading is even better than the first.
