British Intelligence tried to recruit Cumming back in 1995, but apparently, he never worked for them. I don’t believe him. Why would I? All I’ve seen so far is his word. Also, he writes compelling spy novels.
Admittedly, I have no way of proving that his books are more accurate than those written by any other spy fiction author. But they have a sense of grounded realism that I rarely see.
Maybe Cumming isn’t a spy. But clearly, he has access to experts in that field. I love the way he portrays the trials of espionage and the toll the work can take on the mind. Le Carre is still the best there ever was. But Cumming is a decent contender.
