Hi Book Buds!
I am Book Buddy, the official host of Book Notification and I just want to send you a quick welcome e-mail for signing up to Book Notification!
Along with receiving e-mails notifying you on new books by your favourite authors, I will also send out one quick monthly newsletter just updating you on the status of the site, and any new features or articles added.
First a quick thank you to all my friends who signed up this month via the OOB Newsletter! Great to see you all aboard, and I really appreciate all of the feedback e-mails in this beta phase. We expect the beta phase to last probably a few months.
I have a good list of minor issues to fix or to improve upon thanks to your feedback. I won’t list them all here but some include: tooltips and better instructions on using the site, alphabetical search listings, change display name or delete account within my account, and much more.
Our e-mails notifying you of new books by authors that you followed will start coming soon. It will be just one e-mail per week to begin with. We’re just putting the finishing touches on these, and making sure there are no issues.
If you submitted any Goodreads files to import, please note the process can take up to a couple of weeks. This is due to the huge influx of users on January 1st. We’re working through them as fast as possible but there are a lot of authors to add and books to match that aren’t yet on Book Notification. We appreciate your patience. you will receive an e-mail upon completion of your Goodreads list.
Same thing if you requested any new authors to be added to the site. We had a few hundred authors requested so are working through them right now and will notify you personally when they are added.
This is basically me right now!
Finally, I just wanted to explain a little more about the “Manage Book” function as I don’t feel we made that clear to everyone on first viewing of the site (we’re working on that).
If you click on the empty checkbox beside a book, this will initially reveal a book icon. What this does is simply mark the book read, and when you refresh the page or revisit that page, it will be replaced by a checkbox to indictate that you have read that book.
However if you click on the book icon, or the checked box, a popup box will appear where you can:
- Change the status to “want to read” or “did not finish” or mark as “None” to remove your status.
- Add a rating of the book out of 10.
- Write personal notes about the book only available to you.
In the future, we will be displaying your ratings to you as well as users average ratings on book listings. One of just many things we have planned for the site which will also help us to start recommending books to you!
And as a reminder, any authors that you have chosen to follow, will be displayed with all of their books on your personalized book calendar.
