Am I the one who was surprised that ‘Man and Boy’ lived up to the hype? I don’t know about other people, but in my experience, award winners and bestsellers are never as good as people say they are.
‘Man and Boy’ is one of the few exceptions I’ve encountered. The book is real and raw, two words I have never used to describe a fictional novel before reading Tony Parson’s story.
Harry is one of those characters that I don’t necessarily like. In fact, he irritated me at the start because he kept whining about his life. But Parsons is such a deft writer that he eventually won me over, penning a story that allowed me to empathize with Harry’s plight. This is a great book.
