Tony was born on Christmas Eve 1980 in Connecticut, and he is of Czech descent. Ann (his mom) worked as a teacher, while Anthony (his dad) was a pot dealer.

While growing up, he was only ever told of his dad's involvement in real estate, which was just a front. His family relocated to Miami right after he was born. Tony and his mom went back to Maryland when he was 6 years old, which is where he went to Severna Park High School.

Tony later studied business at George Washington University, graduating first in his class, and pursued media studies at Columbia University. He played baseball while at George Washington University. In 2000, he played outfield for the Bethesda Big Train in the Clark Griffith Collegiate Baseball League.

Starting in 2019, he began co-hosting CBS Mornings, with Adriana Diaz. In September 2024, they began hosting a new third hour of the show, called CBS Mornings Plus. In October of 2024, The New York Times described Tony as a rising star with the network.

Before joining the network, he was a news correspondent for MSNBC and NBCNews and a writer at Newsweek and The Daily Beast.
