Linwood Barclay creates an enjoyable, unique, fun, complex story with some likable and unlikable characters.

He is one of the very best at writing psychological thrillers, and does a great job of keeping the reader in suspense throughout the entire experience, and he crafts some wonderful tales which have an underlying tale. All the while he chills those to the bone that venture to dive deeper.

Trust Your Eyes, about a schizophrenic savant, is an especially thrilling rollercoaster of a ride that you will not get off of. Its intrigue, thrills, and suspense continue one. The difficult yet touching relationship that Ray and Thomas have is captivating.

I read “No Time for Goodbye” in 2007 when it was released. Little did I know that over the next few years that Linwood Barclay would release a list of books that few can rival.

While I’ve enjoyed just about everything he has written, that first book of his I read will always hold a special place in my heart.

I won’t spoil it for you here, but “No Time For Goodbye” sees a woman named Cynthia whose whole family disappeared when she was 14. Now, 25 years later someone has returned to finish what was started all those years ago.

The problem with thrillers today is that most of them rely a little too heavily on twists and turns. You know how The Walking Dead got stale because it kept killing significant characters, and we got desensitized to the deaths? Thrillers are the same way. The twists and turns feel shallow.

Barclay is the first author I’ve read in several years whose twists and turns have actually dropped my jaw. Initially, I couldn’t figure out what made him so special. But now I think I get it.

The pacing is Barclay’s strongest weapon. His books feel like movies. I remember leaning forward while reading ‘The Accident,’ as if the book was a television set and I was sitting on the couch, trying to catch every word. It was an incredible experience that few other books have replicated.
