Sophie Blackall

Sophie Blackall (Sophie Jocasta Blackall) was born in 1970 and is currently 55 years old. Sophie Blackall was born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Blackall attended the University of Technology Sydney where she received a Bachelor of Design degree.

Sophie Blackall is best known as an artist and illustrator in addition to being a notable visual artist. As an award-winning illustrator, she has worked on more than 50 books and has also been contracted by the likes of Save the Children and UNICEF on literacy and health initiatives.

Blackall has worked many jobs over the years before she became a professional illustrator and artist. She was once a painter of robotic characters for theme parks in addition to writing a column on household hints. Sophie has also exhibited many of her paintings in Melbourne and Sydney galleries.

In 2000, Sophie won an immigration visa to the United States and moved with her family to the New York City suburb of Brooklyn. While she did not have a steady job at the time, she got work on animated commercials and even did editorial work mostly for the UK market.

At some point, she got work collaborating with other writers illustrating children's books. Her debut illustrated work was Shirin Yim Bridges’ Ruby’s Wish. She would ultimately begin writing on her own, even though she never stopped collaborating with other authors.

Sophie Blackall published her first novel, Hello Lighthouse, in 2018. The work tells the story of the keeper of a lighthouse and his family who live in a lighthouse. It shows its readers the lives of the family through the many challenging situations and circumstances but despite everything, they continue to work hard to provide light to guide travelers to their destination.

In 2022, Sophie Blackall released one of her best-reviewed works to date - Farmhouse. It goes back to the 19th century to a setting on a dairy farm and the family that lives therein. From the homemade wallpaper, the wood stove, and the upright piano, it follows everything from misbehaving children to nighttime dreams and contented cows until the farm is abandoned and reclaimed by nature.

Negative Cat is a work that Sophie Blackall published in 2021. This one tells the story of a cat named Max and a boy who loves him and does everything to turn his negatives into positives. When he finally brings the cat home, he turns out to be nothing like what they expected. Still, the boy will not turn against Max despite his quirks.
