Scott Smith: TV/Movies Based on Books

Scott wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation of his 1993 novel A Simple Plan. The film was directed by Sam Raimi, and starred Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thornton and Bridget Fonda. It was released in 1998. It was met with critical acclaim when it premiered at the 1998 Toronto International Film Festival. For his screenplay, Smith received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Scott Smith also wrote the screenplay to the 2008 film adaptation of his 2006 novel The Ruins. Directed by Carter Smith (no relation), the film starred Jonathan Tucker, Jena Malone, Shawn Ashmore, Laura Ramsey and Joe Anderson.
