I was a life-long fan of American crime fiction before I started dipping my toes into the Norwegian noir scene. Now I have made the leap to Danish Crime thrillers with Sara Blaedel, and if I’m being honest, the differences between these three fields are minuscule.
Obviously, the cultural differences are evident in all three. But all in all, mysteries and thrillers are the same regardless of the country of origin. In the case of Blaedel, her artists deserve a raise because the author’s book covers are incredible. They draw you in, tickling the imagination.
Her mysteries are just as intriguing. I would recommend her work to newcomers because she isn’t quite as gruesome as other mystery thriller authors. Though, she has a book with a rape scene that provided too many graphic details for my liking.
Sara Blaedel writes an emotionally riveting story in The Midnight Witness novel full of twists. The story pulled me in quickly and kept me hooked to the end. After completing the book, I knew that I needed more of Blaedel’s list of books. She is one of the best Nordic Noir authors on my list. The Nordic Noir genre is good when written the right way, and the Ilka Jensen series served that right. Indeed, it proves that Sarah Blaedel’s a real Denmark’s ‘Queen of Crime’. The books have character-driven storylines that give the reader more reasons to read them. The crimes are well-plotted in the series with complex mysteries.
