I started following Goodwin because I read about the work she did as a placement support worker, which I applaud. I cannot help but wonder whether her personal experiences inspired some of the stories she has written over the years.
If I were to use one word to describe her work, I would probably settle for ‘Gentle.’ Her books have a simplicity that you rarely encounter in fiction these days. Some people think that simplicity in fiction is bad, but I disagree.
With Goodwin, you know what to expect. She creates interesting characters with clear motivations that have to undertake engaging journeys. That is enough for me.
