Robert T. Bakker
Robert T. Bakker (Robert Thomas Bakker) was born on March 24th, 1945 and is currently 81 years old. Robert T. Bakker was born in Bergen County, New Jersey, USA. Bakker attended Yale University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree and Harvard University where he received a Ph.D.
Robert T. Bakker is an American paleontologist that helped reshape modern theories about dinosaurs, especially by adding support to the theory that some dinosaurs were endothermic. Robert’s specialty is the ecological context and dinosaurs’ behavior.
Along with John Ostrom, Robert was responsible for initiating the ongoing dinosaur renaissance in paleontological studies, starting with Bakker’s “Dinosaur Renaissance” published in the
Scientific American issue that was published in April 1975.
He has been a major proponent of the theory that dinosaurs were fast, warm-blooded, adaptable, and smart. Robert published his first paper on their warm blooded nature in 1968.
Robert also believes that flowering plants evolved due to their interactions with dinosaurs. He believes that the principal cause of extinction for all of the non-avian dinosaurs was because of a plague caused by invasive species crossing land bridges. He says that had the comet been big enough to kill every non-avian dinosaur, then it would’ve also wiped out all the various taxa that were known to have survive the K-T extinction event.
Bakker was among the advisors of the movie Jurassic Park, and his book, called
The Dinosaur Heresies is mentioned. A caricature of Bakker is used in the sequel, and is seen being eaten.
The Dinosaur Heresies is about how dinosaurs, for over a century, have been believed to have been dim-witted and plodding gigantic lizards too ill-equipped and too awkward to survive the ravages of environmental change.
Robert offers up some startling new evidence that is destined to forever alter the perception of the much-maligned monsters, portraying them like never before: amazingly agile, hot-blooded, and surprisingly brilliant.
Raptor Red starts with this fierce yet gorgeous pair of eyes looking out from the undergrowth of conifers. She’s a brilliant killer.
So starts one of the most extraordinary novels ever written. It is set in the plains of prehistoric Utah, 120 million years ago, and the eyes belong to an unforgettable heroine. She is Raptor Red, and she is a female Raptor dinosaur.
Painting a colorful and rich portrait of a lush prehistoric world, leading paleontologist Robert telling his own story from inside of her extraordinary mind, dramatizing his personal revolutionary theories in quite the exciting story. From the fierce struggle to survive to a tragic loss to this daring migration out to the Pacific Ocean to escape from a lethal new predator, this combines both fiction and fact in order to capture for the very first time the emotions, thoughts, and behaviors of the most magnificent, enigmatic creatures that have ever walked the face of the earth.
