Richard Llewellyn: TV/Movies Based on Books
Richard Llewellyn's classic novel How Green Was My Valley was made into a Hollywood film in 1941. It was directed by John Ford, and starred Walter Pidgeon, Maureen O'Hara, Anna Lee, Roddy McDowall, Donald Crisp, and Barry Fitzgerald. The film won five Academy Awards and was nominated for five others, beating out Citizen Kane, Sergeant York and The Maltese Falcon for Best Picture and winning John Ford the Best Director Oscar. The film was selected to be preserved in the U.S. National Film Registry.
The book was also adapted by the BBC on two occasions - in 1960 and 1975.
