Richard Bach
Richard Bach (Richard David Bach) was born on June 23rd, 1936 and is currently 89 years old. Richard Bach was born in Oak Park, Illinois, USA. Bach attended Long Beach State College.
Richard Bach is best known as an author who has been actively writing flight-related works in addition to philosophical and spiritual writing. Bach’s books are for the most part semi-autobiographical as they make use of fictionalized and actual events from his life to showcase his philosophies.
One of the most notable things about Richard Bach is that he has always loved aviation. He has been flying as a hobby ever since he was in his late teens having flown for the first time at age 14. His first flight was with his mother’s campaign manager Paul Marcus, who took him on a flight in his two-seat sport monoplane.
As an adult, Richard Bach worked as a fighter pilot in the United States Air Force, in addition to serving in the 141st Fighter Squadron of the New Jersey Air National Guard and the United States Navy Reserve. He has also been engaged in different odd jobs such as working for
Flying Magazine as a contributing editor and for Douglas Aircraft as a technical writer.
In his personal life, Bach married Bette Jeanne Franks with whom he had half a dozen children. His first wife was also a lover of aviation and has published a book about single motherhood and her life as a pilot. While they were together, she was responsible for editing most of Richard Bach’s books.
Richard Bach’s
Stranger to the Ground is a work in which he takes you along on a ride across France during the Berlin Airlift during which he worked as an Air National Guard Pilot. He shares his experiences including his training and the hairy moments when he often felt like he would never make it but somehow he did.
In
Biplane, Richard Bach takes his readers back to a time of slower and simpler flying. It was a time when pilots did not have autopilot or much of the modern technology which meant flying was tedious and painful but still enjoyable for anyone with a love for flying.
