I can’t really say that Philip R. Craig died too early because he was 73 when he passed away. However, authors are a unique breed because you feel their absence through the books they won’t write.
Every time I crack an old Martha’s Vineyard novel open, I cannot help but fantasize about how amazing a new Philip R. Craig book would be. I enjoy re-reading the author’s previous works.
But it would be far more entertaining to consume a new story. Admittedly, Craig’s mysteries were not the most complex. Sometimes, I would solve the puzzles and identify the culprit before the halfway mark, yet I would keep reading because Craig’s writing is so smooth.
For that reason, re-reading Craig’s older novels is not necessarily a chore. I can still squeeze plenty of entertainment value from the author’s stories.
