This list caught me off-guard. I had no idea Gibney had written so many Lottie Parker books. The Missing Ones is the only one I’ve read thus far. Does anyone know whether or not they get better? With long-running series, you never know. Some of them become more refined over time. Others fall apart. I hope this one gets better. If I’m being honest, I only read the first one because I heard that Lottie was a widow mourning the death of her husband, and Gibney’s husband had also died. It makes you wonder whether Lottie and Gibney have any other similarities.
Not sure where I learned about Patricia Gibney — probably suggested in the Order of Books newsletter. I like listening to Irish and Scottish detective stories and have listened to all of these except The Altar Girls, hoping for the audio to be released soon. For me the cases are interesting to follow. She is a risk taker for the right reasons even though she might/does end up in hot water with her superior officers. There is the dynamics of her personal life which have me shaking my head and advising that she really shouldn’t do whatever it is she might be planning to do. I enjoy the complexities of Lottie and the interactions with the other characters. I am always on the lookout for new releases from Patricia Gibney and hope she, Lottie, et al will stick around to keep me intrigued.
