In his 1996 published work
The Best of Enemies, Osha Gray Davidson traces the friendship between the well-known black activist Ann Atwater and the ranking member of the Ku Klux Klan, Claiborne Paul C.P. Ellis.
They both lived in Durham, North Carolina, and frequently clashed during the 196os at the peak of the civil rights movement. When both were selected to serve on a school desegregation committee, they found that they had a lot in common.
Their initially tense relationship soon turned into a passionate friendship founded on genuine respect and affection.
Two years later, Davidson published the work
The Enchanted Braid in which he explores the condition of some of the most famous coral reef systems across the globe.
Many of the systems are under threat from modern developments, some of which are ecotourism resorts. Others have been destroyed by the use of cyanide and dynamite by the fishing industry, sometimes resulting in irreparable damage.
The author combines documentary research with first-hand experience as a traveller to make a case for why we need to fight harder to preserve the remaining coral reefs.
Passionate about ecology and marine life, he published
Fire in the Turtle House in 2001.
In this book, he looks into the work done by veterinarians, marine biologists, and scientists as they try to prevent turtles from going extinct. He follows the fates of several turtles who have distinct personalities, even as he explores man’s dependence on the sea and how sometimes humans can cause the extinction of thousands of species.
