Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (Mihaly Robert Csikszentmihalyi) was born on September 29th, 1934. Mihaly passed away October 20th, 2021 at 87 years old. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi was born in Rijeka, Croatia. Csikszentmihalyi attended the University of Chicago where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Ph.D.

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi has written 28 Non-Fiction Books. The first was released in 1975 with the book Beyond Boredom and Anxiety: Experiencing Flow in Work and Play. The most recently released was Positive Psychological Science: Improving Everyday Life, Well-Being, Work, Education, and Societies Across the Globe which was released in 2020.

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi also wrote the Positive Psychology series which has 6 books including A Life Worth Living and Designing Positive Psychology.

Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi made his name as a psychologist who developed the concept of flow that has become one of the most influential in positive psychology.

When he was 16 years old, he was deeply influenced by psychologist Carl Jung, whose talk he had listened to. This inspired a lifelong interest in the human experience and psychology. When he was 22, he moved to America, and following his studies, he began teaching at the University of Chicago.

Mihaly Scikszentmihalyi’s work is centered on a state of intrinsic motivation and deep immersion in an activity, which he calls Flow. The state improves happiness as it gets individuals fully engaged with their activities, whether in leisure or at work.

His research on flow and positivity has become influential in different fields, from politics to sports and education. Prominent people such as Jimmy Johnson, the NFL coach, Tony Blair, the former British Prime Minister, and Bill Clinton, the former American president, have used his ideas.

He has produced a ton of academic works which including more than 120 publications on optimal experience, creativity, and happiness, that has helped to shape and establish positive psychology as a field.

Csikszentmihalyi is a pioneer in his field and has provided a framework that experts use to understand how people can find joy and cultivate engagement in everyday activities, resulting in more fulfilling lives.

His theory of flow encouraged the pursuit of meaningful challenge that combines difficulty and skill, making it possible for individuals to become the best they can be.

In 2008, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi published the work Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience.

He looks at the concept of flow, which he describes as a mental state of total involvement, enjoyment, and deep focus. According to the author, true happiness is derived from intentional engagement in meaningful challenges that demand everything from us. When people are in flow, they feel a sense of fulfillment, and creativity thrives.

According to Csikszentmihalyi, people can get into this state by focusing their consciousness and structuring their lives instead of just hoping it happens.

In the work, he looks into how his readers can get into a state of flow through balancing skill and challenge, intense focus, immediate feedback, and clear goals.
