Miller Center of Public Affairs at the University of Virginia.
Michael has been a trustee at the
Faulkner/PEN Foundation, the
Urban Institute, and the
Thomas Jefferson Foundation. He used to sit on the
White House Fellowships President’s Commission and the
Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission advisory board.
He has worked at several institutions including the
Russian Research Center of Harvard University where he was a Visiting Scholar,
St Anthony’s College as a Senior Associate Member, and at the
Smithsonian as a historian. He has also been a
Dartmouth College Dorsett Fellow, a Montgomery Fellow, and an
Annenberg Foundation Senior Fellow.
In
Mayday, which Michael R. Beschloss published in 1986, the author explores the

From making tough decisions, struggling with Congress, the antiwar protests, the press, and the courts, to prayer, he chronicles everything. Making use of classified documents, original letters, and interviews with participants, he lets us into the tension-filled moments of the era.
