Michael Elias

Michael Elias (Michael Herman Elias) was born on September 20th, 1940 and is currently 85 years old. Michael Elias was born in Woodbourne, NY, USA. Elias attended St. John's College where he received a degree in mathematics and philosophy.

Michael Elias is an American writer, film director, and producer. He wrote and directed Lush Life starring Forrest Whitaker and Jeff Goldblum. The film earned him a nomination for Best Director at the CableACE Awards and has since become known as a classic jazz movie.

His semi-autobiographical play The Catskill Sonata, about a small hotel in upstate New York, was named by LA Weekly as one of the ten best plays of the year. Elias divides his time between Los Angeles and Paris.

You Can Go Home Now by Michael Elias is a dark and gripping thriller that blends cold-case investigation with a personal story of revenge. The novel follows Nina Karim, a determined detective with the Long Island City Police Department. She knows when to follow the rules and when to bend them, and her strength is tested as she balances professional duty with unresolved pain from her past.

The main case begins with a missing couple whose troubled marriage was well known. When the husband’s body is found, his history of domestic abuse comes to light. His wife denies any involvement but feels no sorrow over his death.

As Karim digs deeper, she uncovers other unsolved cases tied to domestic abuse, many connected to the same shelter. The possibility of a vigilante killer pushes her to go undercover, posing as an abused woman to uncover the truth.

Alongside her police work, Karim carries a personal mission. Years earlier, her father was murdered in their kitchen by a sniper, most likely because he performed abortions in a climate of violent opposition.

Karim has never stopped seeking justice and believes the killer was linked to extremist groups. This private investigation drives her as strongly as the cases assigned by her department.

Elias creates a strong lead character in Nina Karim. She is resilient, independent, and unafraid to take risks, even when her colleagues dismiss her. Her backstory of grief and determination adds depth, while her undercover role highlights the dangers faced by women living with abuse.

The supporting cast is equally vivid and add layers to the mystery. The dialogue feels sharp and realistic, giving the impression of being right inside the investigation. Short chapters keep the pace fast, making the novel hard to put down.

At its heart, You Can Go Home Now is about violence, justice, and survival. It deals with heavy themes such as abuse and vengeance, yet it presents them with clarity and urgency. Michael Elias combines suspense with social commentary and offers a thriller that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
