Michael Easterling
Michael Easterling and Elizabeth (his wife) have this small farm in the Sierra foothills, where he dreams about adventures and puts them into pixels.
Michael gets inspired to write by images. Even the simplest ones have the power to inspire. For example, there’s a story that he wrote that came just from a small tattoo on a woman’s shoulder.
While working as a music therapist at Shriner’s Hospital, where children come from all around the world, he had a collection of international folktales. One was this 3-page story from Peru about a young girl who saved the heir to the Empire. Michael wondered what the true story was and how it could be told. He decided to remove the magical, fairy-tale elements and tell this story as realistically as possible. What resulted is
The Water at the End of the World.
The Water at the End of the World. While he’s on his way to visit the healing waters of Tambo Puquio, the Capac Inca, the emperor of Tahuantinsuyu, is forced to stop off at the tiny village of Qomermoya. Possibly this was the will of the gods, since Yana Mayu, this impetuous young woman, is there, and she takes it upon herself to help Topa Inca, the emperor’s ailing son. It’s an act of kindness that triggers a series of events, which not only leads Yana on a journey of discovery but also alters the course of history.
Learning that just the water at the end of the world can cure Topa, Yana is convinced that she’s been selected to find this healing water. Yana leaves her home and those that she loves to travel lonely roads across the ice-covered mountains and into the rain forest to search for the entrance to the underworld and the source of the water at world’s end.
Sweet Hope: An Appalachian Ghost Story. Parry Euphrates (assistant professor of anthropology) is ready for a change. When her friend Adam Manly Singer (a guitar-playing legend) shows up, she’s more than willing to lend an ear to Adam’s proposal: dig up the grave of this man made famous in a murder ballad.
Adam sweetens his bid with descriptions of the beauty and peace of Hoagland Holler, West Virginia, where the man is supposedly buried, as well as some nights spent around a campfire, sipping moonshine, and serenading the stars with their guitars.
All of it sounds great to Parry; however, little does she yet realize that in digging the grave up, she’ll also be resurrecting this old feud, and once the bullets begin flying, she will be looking for help from beyond the grave.
