Michael E. Glasscock III was born in 1933. Michael passed away in 2018 at 84 years old. Glasscock III attended The University of Tennessee Medical School where they received a degree in medicine.
Michael E. Glasscock III was a legendary neurotologist, one of the best at treating the inner ear. For years, he was a pioneer and transformational practitioner in surgical techniques and improving standards of patient care.
In 1970, Glasscock founded the Nashville-based Otology Group, which would become known for excellence worldwide. The organization would later become The Otology Group of Vanderbilt after merging with Vanderbilt’s Department of Otolaryngology.
Dr. Michael Glasscock III led the organization to become one of the best centers for the treatment of ear disorders. His work would also have a significant influence on doctors' practice and the health of countless patients.
Outside of his work as a doctor, he was a prolific writer who edited the Surgery of the Ear textbook and published more than 250 scholarly articles. He is the founder of Otology and Neurotology Journal, the creator of the EAR Foundation, and a former president of the American Otologic Society.
Dr. Michael is also a mentor who has trained many ear surgeons who have gone on to become leaders in the field, while others have been department chairs. His legacy endures through the Michael E. Glasscock III, M.D. Fellowship and several endowed lectureships.
Dr. Glasscock died of kidney disease aged 84 in 2018.

Little Joe, a story about a boy whose parents died in a car accident, forcing him to move in with his grandparents.

The Trial of Dr. Kate, which tells the story of a small town doctor named Dr. Kate Marlow who is believed to be responsible for the death of Lilian Johnson, her friend.
The latter had been a paraplegic suffering from multiple sclerosis who died from an overdose of barbiturates, which the police found suspicious. To make things worse, Kate has amnesia and does not remember anything from that night.
Thankfully, Shenandoah Coleman, the reporter who grew up in the town, has returned and will do anything to protect Kate from being wrongfully convicted and to get to the truth of the mystery.
In his first nonfiction work,
Handbook of Vertigo, Michael E. Glasscock III wrote a practical guide to be used by physicians working with patients experiencing dizziness.
He examines how to examine the patient, balance systems, run tests, and use lab work or imaging to determine the cause of dizziness. He distinguishes between brain-related and inner-ear disorders and provides step-by-step treatment plans.
He believes that doctors need to begin with conservative techniques before considering surgery and controversial procedures such as perilymph fistula repairs and endolymphatic shunts.
