Martha Grimes is one of those rare authors that different members of my family enjoy. My nieces, nephews, aunts, mom, and I do not have the same literary preferences. And yet, we all like Richard July.
Interestingly enough, the first time I heard about Richard July, I immediately thought that it sounded like a made-up name, which is an odd reaction because every fictional character is made up.
But ‘Richard July’ sounded more made up than usual, which made me curious. The series occupies that strange middle ground where it is neither too intense nor too light. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call it a standard mystery series.
