Marc Goodman
Marc Goodman is a renowned consultant, author, and strategist, known as an expert in international affairs, security, and technology.
For more than two decades, he conducted research on how new technologies have reshaped risk, conflict, and crime. He focuses on threats to everyday people, companies, and governments that influence information warfare, cyber terrorism, and cybercrime.
In his work, Marc Goodman has collaborated with and advised the Los Angeles Police Department, Interpol, NATO, and the United Nations. He has worked in more than 70 countries, enlightening leaders on emerging security challenges and international cyber threats.
For many years, Goodman worked with Interpol as a senior information technology advisor. He has trained police services in Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. He also led teams that analyzed threats, helping law enforcement organizations prepare for future threats.
To educate decision makers and the public about the dangers of innovation, he founded the
Future Crimes Institute. Goodman also works at the Google and NASA-supported
Singularity University, where he is a Chair for Law and Policy and Global Security Advisor.
As a researcher, Goodman studies the risks associated with data-driven societies, artificial intelligence, virtual worlds, genomics, and robotics.
In 2015, Marc Goodman published the nonfiction work
Future Crime, an examination of how terrorists and criminals may exploit cutting-edge technologies such as synthetic biology, robotics, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and nanotechnology.
The argument is that while these technologies could lead to greater health, wealth, and progress, they also significantly increase vulnerability. As such, our future is becoming more fragile.
Goodman showcases the hidden dangers of interconnectedness, from the misuse of science to cyberattacks. He not only warns but also gives practical steps we can take to survive and be insulated from the rapid advances in technology.
In 2018, Marc Goodman teamed up with MG Goodman to publish the fictional novel
Into the Light, which tells the story of Emily Walters and Rebecca Duval.
The latter invited her friend Walters to Bradenton, Florida, away from New York, so that she could recover from the loss of her husband and his brother.
In Florida, they soon find themselves embroiled in the travails of a woman named Mia Harper who is trying to leave her past life as a prostitute, but this is proving difficult. The men who brought her to the US will not let her go so easily.
Will they be able to get out of the ordeal, or has God ordained it so they can face the consequences and become stronger for it?
