Maeve Binchy is a great fiction writer, and it’s just the other day I came across a list of her books. In Light a Penny Candle, the author writes with wit, warmth, and great compassion as she tells an exciting story of two ladies who are held together in a friendship that no one can come between. Binchy does a great job in character development in all her books. I liked the Heart and Soul clinic settings and how the author creates a compelling family drama with tantrums and happy endings. Most of her books link together with overlapping characters, and you can’t help but like them. Clara Casey is my favorite character, and even though she had more than enough issues to deal with, she still stayed strong. Half Promised land was also an incredible short story, and I’m looking forward to reading more of Maeve Binchy’s books.
Every so often, I come across an author like Maeve Binchy, who reminds me of the wonders of literary fiction. I won’t hesitate to dismiss stories about ordinary people doing ordinary things on most days. I don’t see the point.
I gravitate toward authors that can take me on adventures in fantastical realms where the impossible happens. But on occasion, a novel like ‘Tara Road’ will come along and remind me that I’m an ordinary fellow doing ordinary things in an ordinary world.
And there’s plenty of fun to be had in reading about other normal people as they encounter and overcome challenges similar to mine.
Circle of Friends – Excellent book and movie. It is a good story of growing up as you move to college. I would definitely recommend it!!
