Liana Finck

Liana Finck was born in 1986 and is currently 40 years old. Liana Finck was born in USA.

Liana Finck is best known as an American illustrator, author, and cartoonist. Known for her memoirs and graphic novels, she has contributed comics and cartoons to The New Yorker for many years.

In addition to her work producing comics with The New Yorker, Finck also writes Dear Pepper, a monthly advice column-style comic with the same paper.

On her Instagram account, Liana Finck usually posts drawings reflecting her social observation, humor, and personal experience. She has been an artist in residence at organizations such as the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Yaddo, and MacDowell, among others.

Finck’s drawing style is usually expressive and minimal, as she usually uses simple lines to capture everyday moments of introspection, emotional complexity, and awkwardness. She has also spoken about identity, creativity, and how she uses art to find understanding and connection.

She makes her home in New York, from where she draws, writes, and releases graphic novels, memories, and comics.

In her first fiction work, A Bintel Brief, the author explores the letters sent to The Forward, a Yiddish newspaper from the early 1900s.

It was an advice column in the paper where immigrants of Jewish extraction shared their hopes and struggles as they adapted to their new lives in New York. Through illustrations, Finck engages in creative dialogue with the editor as he reimagines the voices of the letter writers.

With themes of identity, money, and love, it is a vivid portrait of the universal search for belonging and a portrait of immigrant life in an evolving landscape that was the United States.

In her graphic work Passing for Human, Liana Finck writes a memoir in which she looks into her search for self-acceptance and identity.

She recounts losing her shadow in childhood, a symbol of her creative and unusual side that made her feel unique. She had always struggled to find a connection with people and loved to spend much of her time in imagination and in nature.

Blending surrealism, melancholy, and humor, she recounts her journey of embracing her true self and reestablishing a connection with her shadow as an adult, while also exploring the concept of belonging and delving into the intersections of identity and art.

Liana Finck took a different direction in 2022 with the publication of Let There Be Light, in which she reimagines the Book of Genesis from a feminist and very modern perspective.

She portrays God as a woman, Rebekah as a robot, while Abraham makes his home in New York City. The author revisits the many stories of the bible from Jacob and Esau, Abraham and Isaac, and Adam and Eve, which she modernizes with insight, empathy, and humor.

Ultimately, her storytelling and artwork inject new life into the biblical narratives as she explores timeless questions about morality, purpose, and humanity.
