Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen (Laura Arrillaga) was born in Palo Alto, California, USA. Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen is best known as a philanthropist, academic, social entrepreneur, and author. She founded several Silicon Valley organizations such as the
Guild Theater Stanford Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society, and the
Arrillaga Foundation among many others in which she has been founder, and cofounder among other leadership roles.
Arrilaga-Andreessen has been active in teaching courses on women's leadership and philanthropy mostly at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. She is also a board member of the
Robin Hood Education and Technology Fund and trustee of the
National Gallery of Art.
While she was in college, Arrilaga-Andreessen devised a plan for an organization that would focus on making grants modeled on venture capital firm investment techniques and offering education on philanthropy. This organization would then be transformed into the
Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund, which she chaired until 2008.
According to Laura, she was significantly influenced by philanthropy by the volunteer work her mother did while they lived in Palo Alto. Following her mother’s demise from cancer, she got into active philanthropy. In 2006, she got married to Marc Andreessen and together they have one son.
