Kurt Cobain

Kurt Cobain (Kurt Donald Cobain) was born on February 20th, 1967. Kurt passed away April 5th, 1994 at 27 years old. Kurt Cobain was born in Aberdeen, Washington, USA.

Kurt Cobain was one of the most iconic rock music frontmen who was the lead singer of the band Nirvana and one of the leading figures of Grunge music during the 1990s.

As a teen, he lived a life of turmoil, and at different times he was moved from different homes, used drugs, and committed a range of crimes. However, he always loved music and in 1987 he formed the band Nirvana alongside his friend Krist Novoselic.

In 1989, Nirvana blew up when they released Bleach, their debut album, but it was when they released Nevermind, which had the blockbuster single Smells Like Teen Spirit, that they would become international superstars.

Nevermind became popular for its melodic hooks and punk rawness, which resonated with the youth of its generation. It was not long before Cobain and the band became the voice of Generation X.

Despite being very famous, he still had struggles with chronic stomach pain, heroin addiction, and depression. In Utero, his final studio album, was a showcase of his internal anguish and how uncomfortable he was with fame. Cobain committed suicide in April 1994, aged 27.

Following his death, Cobain would become a cultural icon memorialized in published journals, documentaries, and biographies. The influence of his band Nirvana cannot be denied, and in 2014, it was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In 2002, the personal writings of Kurt Cobain were collected in a work titled Journals. The work is a glimpse into the mind of the lead singer of the band Nirvana, showcasing his perspectives on music and fame, personal struggles, and creative process.

The work comes with unsent letters to family and friends, early drafts of lyrics, sketches ranging from darkly introspective to humorous, and reflections on a range of subjects. The collection also comes with a list of Kurt’s favorite albums and bands, thus showcasing how diverse his musical influences were.
