Did anyone read that Scott Lynch novel where the characters have to become pirates? I think it was the second novel in a series, and I hated it because Lynch spent too much time dissecting the minutiae of life on the sea. But that book only failed, in my opinion, because I wanted to explore the thieving adventures of the hero.
I did not sign up for a pirate tale. Stockwin’s Kydd books are the opposite. I read the first third of ‘Kydd’ and felt at home because the book gave me exactly what I had signed up for.
Also, from what I read, Stockwin has firsthand experience with ships. So, you can trust every detail he adds to his stories.
A long time reader of Julian Stockwin I look forward to the next book and often read previous ones again. His grasp of history and his characters running alongside make for compelling tales.
